FABIA R5 Taxi. Behind the Scenes

When successful rally racers thank their fans, it can make for a captivating spectacle. This is precisely what happened at the end of last year when ŠKODA Motorsport delighted its fans with an entertaining, high-octane video.

Just as the ŠKODA team was collecting accolades in the World Rally Championship, the video, after being published, took off at dizzying speed and zoomed to a million views on social networks. ŠKODA FABIA R5 driving through downtown Prague as a taxi gathered more than 2.5 million views on YouTube and over 940,000 on Facebook.

A HUNDRED PEOPLE IN ACTION

The filming itself took place before last Christmas. A team of almost a hundred people contributed to it. The racing taxi was also accompanied by a specially modified six-wheeled buggy liberally festooned with cameras, a drone was capturing everything from above, and an entire team of camera operators was engaged in the streets.

Both the creators and the representatives of the ŠKODA Motorsport factory team are satisfied. “We are thrilled that the FABIA R5 Taxi video met with such tremendous success. Through the video, we wanted to hank our fans for their support during the successful 2017 season. At the same time, we hope we attracted many new ŠKODA Motorsport fans who will support us in the coming season,” says the team’s director Michal Hrabánek.

Acquiring new fans is welcomed also by Jan Kopecký, who drove the car through the metropolis’s historic centre: “For me, the entire FABIA R5 Taxi project was an excellent diversion in the middle of preparations for the new season. The video has a fantastic several million views, so a whole lot of people could see me in the very non-traditional role of taxi driver. I hope everyone will support me also in my real work during the rally season.”
