Škoda at the head of the Tour de France. The evolution of the red car
This year will be the twentieth that a red Škoda leads the riders in the famous Tour de France. Several generations of the Czech carmaker’s models have already served as the race director’s car. Let’s take a look back at them.
The year is 2004 and the Tour de France director rides for the first time in the red Škoda special.
The first director’s car was the first-generation Superb, which was replaced by the second generation in 2008. A third generation followed eight years later, and from 2019 the car was the Superb iV with plug-in hybrid drive and purely electric driving capability. The purely electric Enyaq continued this trend in 2020.
Take a look at the Tour de France race directors’ cars from 2004-2023:
Besides the Tour de France, Škoda also supports Tour de France Femmes avec ZWIFT (the women’s race), L’Etape by Tour de France (a race for the general public) and a number of other cycling events. In addition to the race directors’ cars, the Czech carmaker supplies a fleet of several hundred support and team cars to the Tour de France every year.
