ŠKODA KODIAQ RS through a Designer’s Eyes

The zesty ŠKODA KODIAQ RS will soon be hitting the road. It has the most powerful diesel engine ever seen in the history of ŠKODA. The team of designers have built a sporty look around it. Head of exterior design Karl Neuhold describes the results.

You can see how sporty and masculine the new ŠKODA KODIAQ RS is as soon as you look at it. The very large bonnet has a pronounced bulge, which goes on to form a line encircling the sides of the entire car, with the ŠKODA logo dominating the broad fascia. The logo, now much larger, sits above the grille, which is decorated with distinctive, hulking double slats. The grille trim and slats are high-gloss black and feature the RS logo on the driver’s side.

The imposing grille is accompanied by bold, characteristic LED headlights. The higher-mounted headlights and fog lights, which are better protected in this way and lend the car its specific character, are a hallmark of the ŠKODA KODIAQ. The striking bumper is body-coloured all over. The broad, finely-shaped lower air intake with crystalline grille is an important element. This inlet is rounded off with L-shaped side components specific to the ŠKODA KODIAQ RS. The lower part of the fascia comprises a front spoiler with a second air intake and black finlets on both sides.

ŠKODA KODIAQ RS

The sublime shoulder line running along the side of the ŠKODA KODIAQ RS intimates just how dynamic the car is. As the most sporty KODIAQ, the RS boasts glossy black painted side-window trim and rear-view mirrors. The high-gloss black aluminium roof rails are another feature typical of RS cars.

The fascia strip extending from the ŠKODA logo stretches across the headlights and the side of the car until it reaches the rear light clusters. Together with the large wheelbase, it visually elongates the car. The wing line, running below the floating tornado line, accentuates the lusty wheel arches to make the car look very powerful. This robustness is enhanced even more by the distinctive body-colour side skirts. The side skirts are decorated at the bottom with protective durable matte anthracite plastic.

The new ŠKODA KODIAQ RS’s 20” wheels have the distinctive appearance typical of RS cars, underlining the robust look of the car as a whole. Their interesting design creates striking lighting effects.

The bright, dynamic design of the new ŠKODA KODIAQ RS’s rear section is epitomised by flat rear glass and the soft play of light and shadow, visually widening the car. The crisp-cut crystalline LED rear light clusters have the C-shaped design typical for ŠKODAs.

The rear bumper looks very sculptured. Under the broad lip of the luggage compartment, an integrated retroreflector strip – a signature feature of RS models – extends across the entire width of the car and visually splits the rear section. The rear section of the new ŠKODA KODIAQ RS ends with imposing chrome-plated tailpipes complementing the black diffuser.
