› At 195 kW (265 hp), the new 2.0 TSI is 15 kW (20 hp) more powerful than its predecessor
› The development team focused on increasing the new engine’s efficiency while preserving its excellent dynamic performance
› A design update for the piston skirt and a new crankshaft seal reduce internal friction
Mladá Boleslav, 24 February 2025 – The heart of the all-new Škoda Kodiaq RS and the refreshed Škoda Octavia RS is their powerful, now even more refined 2.0 TSI engine. Following targeted upgrades, the Czech car manufacturer’s most powerful internal combustion engine now delivers 195 kW (265 hp). This 15 kW (20 hp) increase over the predecessor is coupled with improved efficiency.
“We put a great deal of effort into further optimising the 2.0 TSI for the all-new Kodiaq RS and the revised Octavia RS. In the 4th generation of the EA888 engine we performed modifications at the component level to reduce internal friction, including new piston skirts as well as changes to the crankshaft and crankcase design. This maximises efficiency as well as power. A 15 kW (20 hp) output increase and 370 Nm of peak torque enable both models to deliver even more dynamic performance, which, in combination with the sporty, high-performance chassis, results in an even better driving experience.”
Johannes Neft, Škoda Auto Board Member for Technical Development
Proper performance
The new 2.0 TSI petrol engine in the Škoda Kodiaq RS and Škoda Octavia RS has undergone extensive optimisation by the engineers. The main focus was on increasing the engine’s efficiency while maintaining its excellent dynamic performance. The result is an increase in power of 15 kW (20 hp). To ensure proper performance the engine always runs on the Otto cycle and also complies with the latest EU6 EB emissions standard.
Fine-tuning at component level reduces internal friction
The engine has a turbocharger with a wastegate valve, 350 bar fuel injection and a variable exhaust valve lift. In the fourth-generation EA888 engine, a new piston skirt shape and a new crankshaft seal reduce internal friction. The engine also features acoustic damping from the crankcase and other modifications to reduce the internal friction of moving components and thus further increase efficiency. Other changes have focused mainly on the exhaust manifolds and the ignition system.
Seven-speed DSG with oil-immersed clutches
The engine is mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission (DQ 381) with oil-immersed clutches. The DSG gearshift enables very fast gear changes. When shifting manually in Sport mode, the chosen gear remains engaged. The Škoda Kodiaq RS is equipped with an adapted ECU (engine control unit) for higher torque and a centrifugal counterweight to reduce noise. The Kodiaq RS has a fuel tank capacity of 58 litres, while the Octavia RS can hold 50 litres of fuel. The Škoda Octavia RS offers a new sports exhaust for a sporty, yet pleasant sound.
