Mladá Boleslav, 1 July 2024 – An attractive, all-electric addition to the family: with its world premiere set for autumn 2024, the Elroq will soon expand Škoda Auto’s all-electric SUV range into the compact SUV segment ‑ the largest sub-segment in Europe by volume. With its distinguished looks, the new SUV is the first Škoda model to adopt the brand’s new Modern Solid design language, taking the exterior design of the portfolio even further. With plenty of space, including 470 litres to 1,580 litres of luggage capacity along with compact exterior dimensions and clever storage options, the Elroq is ideal for urban and suburban driving. Outputs from 125 kW to 220 kW as well as a range of more than 560 km (WLTP) and charging time below 28 minutes also make it a perfect companion for long-distance journeys. The introduction of the Škoda Elroq marks the beginning of Škoda’s new BEV campaign, which will see the launch of six battery-electric models over the coming years.

“Growing our electric portfolio into several attractive new segments is key to our strategy of providing our customers a wide choice of new models to choose from and to the continued success of Škoda Auto. The Elroq is a milestone in our BEV portfolio, the first in a coming line-up of six new fully electric models, following the success of the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé. Even the first glimpse of its bold new Modern Solid design tells you that this car is something new, the perfect balance of size, interior space and electric mobility for the city and beyond. Moreover, the Škoda Elroq is equipped with advanced technology and assistance systems that we know our customers value. I am really excited about this new addition to our expanding electrified family.”

Modern Solid design with Tech-Deck Face instead of the familiar Škoda grille

Underlining its strategic importance for the Czech car manufacturer, the Elroq is the first Škoda production model to adopt the new Modern Solid design language. Therefore, the front features the Tech-Deck Face and new bonnet lettering, for example. The Modern Solid design language represents a fundamental change: it combines robustness, functionality and authenticity while conveying a sense of safety and strength, looking at typical Škoda design elements from a completely new perspective. Behind the glossy black Tech-Deck Face element, which will replace the Škoda grille, the engineers have concealed sensors such as the radar and the front camera. A little higher up, the Elroq will feature the new Škoda lettering on the strongly contoured bonnet, making it the brand’s first production model to do away with the logo previously placed there.

“The Škoda Elroq is ringing in a new era of Škoda design. Its functional, minimalist and clean Modern Solid look exudes authenticity and robustness, thus retaining distinctive Škoda design features that are hallmarks of our brand. At the same time, Modern Solid brings great new visual accents such as the shiny black Tech Deck Face. In this way, we have managed to establish a new concept for the front end, while referencing familiar Škoda lines. The Tech‑Deck Face will be the brand’s signature design element in the future.”

LED headlights with delicate lines, new four-eye face and minimalist 2D look

The LED headlights of the Elroq also bear a striking new design. They feature slim upper light strips for the position lights and indicators along with daytime running lights. Below, two LED modules for the low beam and high beam offer a horizontal reinterpretation of Škoda’s iconic four-eye face, ensuring maximum visibility in the dark. They are available in two versions and even the standard split headlights use LED technology exclusively. The top of the‑range LED Matrix beam headlights employ Matrix technology, consisting of 36 individual light segments. Additionally, the upper part of the headlight features a newly designed daytime running light with four rectangular openings. For the rear lights, Škoda remains true to established design principles such as C-shaped light graphics and partially illuminated crystalline elements, harmonising with the Modern Solid design language. There are two versions of the rear lights as well, both using 100% LED technology. The top of the range variant offers dynamic indicators, backlit crystalline elements, an animation when opening the tailgate and a new Coming/Leaving Home animation that also involves the headlights.

Gently sloping roofline and aerodynamically optimised wheels

The side profile of the Škoda Elroq features a dynamic arc beginning at the A-pillar, extending to a gently sloping roofline that merges seamlessly into a roof spoiler above the tailgate. This enables excellent aerodynamics, achieving a drag coefficient as low as 0.26. The vehicle also features aerodynamically optimised wheels and a wheel gap reducer, which extends the wheel arch cladding to enhance airflow. Wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches.

Modern Solid design and Design Selections with more sustainable materials

Fully in line with the new Modern Solid design language, the interior of the Elroq is characterised by simplicity, spaciousness and clean lines. The 5-inch Digital Cockpit is already familiar from the Škoda Enyaq and displays the most important driving data clearly. The driver receives further information via the optional head-up display and Augmented Reality visualisations. The central display of the infotainment system has a screen diagonal of 13 inches as standard and a simplified menu and control interface.

With the Design Selections offered for the Elroq’s interior, Škoda is placing even more emphasis on sustainable, durable and practical materials. The entry-level interior option for the compact SUV is the Design Selection Studio with predominantly dark grey fabrics. For example, in the Design Selection Loft, upholstery made of Recytitan fibre in Dark Melange is used for the door panels, seats, dashboard, centre armrest and knee area. Recytitan consists of 78% recycled PET, for example from drinking bottles. The rest is obtained from new PET and mechanically recycled fibres. The unsorted fibres are processed without involving additional chemical treatments.

Škoda electric mobility: an overview

Škoda Auto is committed to investing billions of euros into its transformation towards electric mobility in the coming years. The Czech carmaker is doing this with a clearly defined roadmap to further increase the brand’s electrified vehicle share in Europe and beyond. Škoda Auto is staying true to its core values, offering accessible individual mobility, tailored to customers’ needs across all markets worldwide. It remains committed to the brand’s long‑term vision of delivering sustainable individual mobility, affordable attractive battery‑electric models and innovative technologies.

The first experiences with electrified vehicles from Mladá Boleslav date back 116 years. The role of electric pioneer belongs to the Laurin & Klement E from 1908, which marked the company’s first venture into hybrid technology. This was followed in the late 1930s by electric beer trucks.

Between 1991 and 1994, several hundred units of the Škoda Eltra 151L were made based on the Favorit and the Pickup, initially for Switzerland and later for other European countries. The 15.4-kW electric motor enabled a range of up to 80 km and a top speed of 80 km/h. Placing the charging cable conveniently behind the radiator grille represented one of the Simply Clever features of the time. Škoda entered the modern era of electromobility with the Octavia Green E Line. Starting in 2011, Škoda’s engineers trialled ten prototypes to assess the practicality of electric drive systems. These models had a motor output of 85 kW at peak power and 60 kW in continuous operation, with 26.5-kWh batteries delivering a range of up to 150 km.

In early 2020, Škoda launched the first all-electric production vehicle in Škoda Auto’s history with the Citigoe iV. Autumn 2020 marked the introduction of the Škoda Enyaq, an all-electric SUV and the first production model based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular electric car platform. In the first quarter of 2022, the dynamic and elegant Enyaq Coupé complemented the portfolio. In Q1 2024, the all-electric Enyaq achieved global deliveries of 14,000 units, an increase of 12.3% compared to the same period in 2023. In the same quarter, the Enyaq ranked as the sixth best-selling electric vehicle in Europe, capturing a 3.1% market share. Moreover, it was the best-selling BEV in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the second best-selling electric car in Germany and Switzerland, and ranked third in Finland and Lithuania.
