Clever luggage solutions for your boot

Bags, suitcases, sports equipment, bottles, or maybe a watermelon – sometimes we need to transport a lot, sometimes less. And Škoda luggage compartments are spacious. How should we make sure that our cargo, big or small, is secured?

Škodas are renowned for their spaciousness, and that applies both to passenger space and cargo space. “All of our models are ‘a car and a half’: the Superb Combi, for example, has a basic boot capacity of 690 litres, while the Kodiaq even offers 910 litres. That’s a lot of space. And that’s why Škoda offers a range of original accessories to make your car’s luggage compartment even more practical – from mats and trays to all sorts of restraints, nets, grilles and a practical boot edge cover,” says Michael Šimáček from Škoda’s Accessories Projects department.

Imagine the following scenarios. A keen angler has just decided to call it a day. Even though his luck was out this time and he’s going back empty-handed, he’s soaked and covered in mud. Will his luggage compartment be able to deal with the results of the rotten weather? Of course it will. There’s a waterproof plastic tray on the floor of the boot and a system of dividers to keep his buckets and bags in place. And the rods? They go into the ski bag that slips through the gap between the rear backrests.

All you need is a waterproof tray, and your boot stays clean despite the rain and mud.

A mother with a stroller has been out for a walk in the woods. But the autumn drizzle has churned up the footpath and the stroller’s wheels are covered in mud. Never mind. Thanks to the folding mat, she doesn’t have to clean them in the woods. She just pops everything in the boot, and the securing straps stop it sliding about in the large space. Back at home, the mat is easily hosed off and wiped down with a rag, and the car’s boot stays as good as new.

Muddy stroller wheels aren’t a problem either.

An architect sets off for a meeting with a client. He doesn’t want all the papers and plans lying around loose in the boot, where they might get scuffed, crumpled, or even dirty. Nothing could be simpler. Under the lid of the luggage compartment he finds a practical net to store everything in, so there’s no risk of them sliding around in the boot and arriving at the meeting in less than perfect condition.

A dog may be man’s best friend, but when your best friend has been running around the woods in autumn you probably don’t want him beside you in the car. Fortunately, the boot in your Škoda has a grille system in the boot, so the problem’s solved. Your pooch can lie in his basket in the luggage compartment, and there’s no need to worry about him jumping into the cabin or moving from side to side at every turn. And you still have plenty of room for other stuff.

Škoda offers a range of devices to take the hassle out of winter sports. A net system helps keep helmets and ski boots securely in place. Side nets can hold small items like gloves and ski goggles. A ski bag not only ensures safety, but also means you won’t have puddles of melted ice in the boot or roof box after a day on the slopes. What’s more, the ski bag can be attached to clasps in the car, so it really is the safest way to transport your skis.

The only safe option for transporting skis inside the car is an original bag.

Two-sided mat

A typically practical universal solution. The textile side provides classic protection of the luggage compartment from dirt and can be used when your cargo items are clean, while the plastic side comes in handy when transporting dirty or wet items.

Foldable luggage compartment protector

Covers the entire floor and all the walls of the luggage compartment. Waterproof and highly durable. It’s also variable: it adapts to different boot configurations, even with the backrests folded down.

Side-to-side divider grille

During hard braking or a crash, objects in the boot can fly into the cabin and endanger passengers. The solution is this grille, which keeps everything where it belongs and allows you to make safe use of the entire space of the boot up to the roof.

Fold-down hook

We all know what it’s like: you’ve been on a small shopping trip and have a few bags, but the rest of the boot is empty. You arrive home, and your shopping is scattered all over the place. This hook is an elegant solution – you can hang the shopping bags on it and not have to worry about any items spilling out.

Universal barriers

Do you need to transport a small flat box, for example? If you just put it on the floor of the boot, it will slide all over the place every time you set off, brake and corner. But all you need to do is get this simple yet practical barrier system that keeps items securely in place on the boot floor.

Plastic tray with divider

You can put this handy tray on the bottom of your car boot when you’re transporting wet and dirty items. For even better results, you can get an aluminium divider to keep things from moving around in the bottom of the tub.

Protective boot edge cover

Have you stopped for a short rest and a bite to eat and realised there’s nowhere to sit down? Why not sit on the edge of your boot? This protective cover is padded and its supports can be used as barriers for small items to keep them from moving around in the boot. At the same time, the cover protects the boot edge when you’re loading and unloading heavy items.

Satchel

Most people carry small items in their cars that they need for work or hobbies but only take them out occasionally. A handy satchel that you attach to the side of the boot or to the back of the rear seat is ideal for this. It’s waterproof and the shoulder strap makes it easy to take out of the car.

Restraining belt

An unwieldy suitcase, or perhaps some plastic bottles that are constantly rolling around in the boot? Use this restraining strap, whose buckles let you easily adapt it to the shape of the item being transported.

Multifunctional pouch

If you need to store clothes or long, lightweight items without sharp edges, Škoda offers a handy multifunctional pouch that hangs from the hooks that can be pulled out from the sides of the luggage compartment.

Another option for stowing smaller items that makes use of the often empty space under the boot lid is this multifunctional box. You can use the full width of the box for longer items, and it can also be divided into two or three smaller sections using dividers.

Levelling panels

The Kodiaq is ideal for road trips to get out and explore, but these adventures sometimes involve staying out in the countryside overnight. To make it more comfortable, these panels provide an even platform between the second row of seats and the luggage compartment’s second level, or the folded third row of seats in the seven-seat version.

Boot edge protective cover

If you have a big dog that keeps jumping into your boot, if you struggle with heavy luggage or have careless offspring then scratches on the boot edge are hard to prevent – unless you have this protective cover.

Folding plastic tray

And one new storage solution to finish. A tray is available for the Škoda Octavia that serves two purposes: a raised floor with a textile cover or a plastic tray.
